IUI

So now that the dreadful "x-ray" is over with, what's next?
The specialist went over the option of doing IUI (Intrauterine Insemination). IUI is when they take the sperm and place it in the woman's uterus, using a catheter, to help facilitate fertilization. Instead of the sperm having to make its own way up to the uterus and through to the ovaries, this procedure skips that step and injects it where it needs to be to fertilize with an egg. And ya'll thought getting pregnant was easy, haha. It is crazy to think about all of the steps it takes just for the sperm and egg to meet. The process of actually getting pregnant, within your body, is pretty difficult. But then again, some people are just EXTRA fertile.
The IUI is a non surgical procedure that last about 10-15 minutes all together. The doctor thought this was the best option for us and that we would have success! It was a lot cheaper than doing In Vitro, that's for sure, so we decided to go for it. We would have to pay for the additional shot injection medication along with the procedure and ultrasound monitoring leading up to the procedure. Roughly about $600 each time for this procedure. And apparently insurances do not believe in helping with fertility procedures. Go figure!

As we were leaving our appointment with the specialist, here come the emotions again. We get in the car and just look at each other, and I can't hold back the tears. Bud grabbed my hand and said..
"Babe, it is going to be okay. We have a plan in place now and it is going to work for us."
I couldn't even talk or really even had any words to say..I was just speechless. While I understood this is just where we are at right now, and we have to deal with it, it was still just so hard for me to accept.
I had to wait to have a normal cycle until we could start moving forward. So here is where we were at so far..
August 3, 2015 | First meeting with fertility specialist in Cincinnati
August 28, 2015 | HSG X-Ray
We had to waive the month of September because my period was still off. = /
When October finally came along, I was back on track with my period and told Bud I think we could start the process to do the procedure this month.
Unfortunately, at Bud's work, no one is allowed to take off in the month of October because it is their inventory month. And because of this being such a private ordeal, he did not want to request off without being able to give his boss a good reason, so we had to just wait until November. Felt like those months literally crawled at a snails pace...I swear.
Because of the way my cycle was at the end of October, I was able to at least start the medication and order the injections, in preparation for the first IUI procedure in November 2015. I was put back on the Femara to take at the beginning of my cycle, two different shot injections which I took days before the procedure and Progesterone, which was taken after the procedure.
The way our time frame was looking for the procedure to take places, we going to be the first week of November. Which is when Bud's birthday happens to be. Wouldn't that be an awesome birthday gift?!
I was just ready to get things moving and get this procedure over with. Who knows, maybe we will have good luck the first try on Bud's birthday! Fingers crossed...Here we go.
